A few random Saturday deals for you!

Besides Costco ... a free ($5+!!) burger, a big discount on various deals from Groupon, and a $1 3-month subscription to the Wall Street Journal and/or Barron's. Read on for more details ...

In case you missed it earlier, be sure to see the deal I posted this morning regarding a cheap Costco membership.

Just wanted to hit you with a few random deals, none of which seemed big enough to justify their own blog post ...

1) In case you didn't see my post from a few days ago, Jack in the Box has been giving away free burgers this week. (I'm not sure exactly how that works as a business model, but it works for me!) It appears that you can still sign up here (http://www.jackinthebox.com/food/burgers/burgergiveaway), but they say it can take "up to 48 hours" for you to get your coupon. In my experience, it doesn't take that long. But if you need to go get your burger fix ASAP, shoot me an email, and if I'm not busy I'll try to send you a copy of the coupon as soon as I can. I feel okay with doing that (but would rather not post it here), since it is NOT a unique coupon that they send to you. In fact, it is a very generic coupon that could be used multiple times ... and did I mention the coupon works through this Monday (2/15)??? ... although they do say it could expire early, if they give away one million free burgers (but my GUESS is that it works through Monday) ...

2) Groupon has a 25% off coupon code (use the code "KISS25" at checkout) that works on "local deals" (things like restaurants, massages, etc. - but not "goods"), and is good today and tomorrow (through 2/14). Some of the nice/cheap deals (especially after coupon) I saw available around me (for the PDX crowd) includes: Charley's subs at the Clackamas mall, Mama's Mini's donuts at the new food carts in Happy Valley, or Frack Burger (multiple locations in Portland). I didn't link to these deals, because you'll want to maximize the deal by shopping via a shopping portal (and then just searching for these deals), as described below ...

Make this Groupon coupon/deal an even better deal by combining that with shopping through a portal (like one of my favorites: MrRebates, where you can get another 8% off; or FatWallet, where you can get 9% off; or you can always search for the best portal yourself at CashBackMonitor). [Note: I get a referral bonus if you sign up for the first time at either of those portals, but it does not diminish the portal rebate you will get.]

3) Unfortunately, I waited too long to get you this deal when it was really good (had some great portal bonus possibilities attached to it that could get you some free airline miles), but it's still a great deal. You can go to the Wall Street Journal and/or Barron's websites (possibly just this holiday weekend - don't know how long it lasts, so don't delay!) and sign up for $1 3-month subscriptions (to either their digital or print editions). Just be sure to cancel your subscription before the 3-months is up (set a calendar reminder!), to avoid it renewing at a higher rate (unless you want to keep it, of course!). I used a "virtual" (one-time-use) credit card number (feature of many Citi credit cards), to make sure that I wouldn't get hit with a subscription extension (in case I forget to cancel).
